Permit with a side of Belikin please.

I know it's been a while since my last blog post and I wish I could say it was because I've been so busy fishing but that's not quite the case. One might be able to say that I'm developing into a more rounded angler, spending a incredible amount of time tying flies and analyzing what our fish in Belize really like to eat. Our dinner table is comprised of more flies than human food lately, a inherent mess of crab & shrimp patterns. I was fortunate to have a few excellent opportunities to fish with friends these last couple of months. A talented photographer and fisherman, Jim Klug made his way down for a short trip to gather a few shots for his new book "Fly Fishing Belize." For a sneak peek check out Greg Baldwin from Flyfish Guanaja joined in on the party for a couple of days and we surrounded the permit. I laid out a solid cast to a solo cruiser that had to be closer to the 30lb range and watched as he incessantly refused to take my fly, just follow… follow… follow. Enjoyed a few more shots at schooling fish and then it was my man Wil's turn to give us a permit clinic.

After a couple of follows, BAM he put's it to a nice one, followed it and boom the EAT. Incredibly happy that someone got those fish to react after so many heartbreaking refusals. A short 15 minutes later he has landed a perfect permit.

Until next time Mr. Permit….. I'm after you!
